If you haven’t been keeping a close eye on the story in West, Texas, a lot has happened since the deadly explosion a few weeks ago. Bryce Reed (right), an early responder who was one of the first EMTs on the scene of the incident, was found in possession of an alleged pipe bomb. While he has not been charged with anything in connection with the explosion as of yet, authorities have opened up a criminal investigation into the incident since his arrest. As Talking Points Memo reports, he had a shaky personal situation in recent days.

A white guy with an Anglophone name was found with a pipe bomb in circumstances related to a blast that killed a dozen people, injured scores, and devastated a town?

“Reed, a volunteer paramedic in West, Texas, had been among the first people on the scene of the April 17 fertilizer plant fire and explosion in the town, which left 15 people dead and around 200 others injured. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Reed spoke with several media outlets about his experience at the scene. At a public memorial last month for the 12 people killed responding to the fire at the plant, Reed appeared in a videotaped eulogy for Cyrus Reed, a volunteer firefighter from Abbott, Texas, who Bryce Reed referred to as his “brother,” though the two were not related.
Whatever prompted the anguished Facebook posts, things took another turn on Friday, when Reed was charged in federal court with possession of a destructive device. …
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Texas said Friday that authorities would not speculate “at this time” about any connection between the destructive device and the explosion. Yet that statement was issued several hours after Texas authorities announced they were launching a criminal investigation into the explosion.”
As one of the earliest and most prominent helpers in the aftermath, you think he’d have a lot of support right now. As a local first responder, you’d imagine he’d have a lot of support from his community right now. Instead, as the ashes are still cooling, his wife leaves him, job suddenly fires him, family of supposed best friend suddenly distance themselves from him… There is some serious shit going on here.
But of course it is more important to our dear old broken down U.S. media to stoke GWOT-ty fear then it is to report on unfolding suspicious details in this domestic disaster which was a thousand times more destructive than the recent Boston violence—BUT alas, does not involve any juicy Islam-y headlines. Just some blue eyed All American Patriot-colored pipe-bomb-wielding guy acting weepy and weird. Who cares about that! Give us more scary muslimy tales!! Our popcorn is cooling.
